Hi HTMI family,
I am Jonathan Lim from the sunny island of Singapore. I started my career in hospitality back in 2006 in the front line. Even with a job in a 5-star hotel, I felt the need to acquire a higher education and aspired to broaden my knowledge. I was able to achieve these goals through HTMI. In 2014, I was a direct entrant to BSc and during my course, I was not only able to learn different aspects of hotel management, but was also exposed to other cultures, learning skills, and high calibre education. My time in HTMI contributed significantly in my growth as a student, as an adult, and as a professional.
I had developed greatly despite my short stay in the university. The experience has taught me a lot both academically and professionally. I left the campus taking with me a better understanding of the direction I want to take and with higher potential of achieving the goals I have set for my career.
I came back early 2015 and secured a position at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel as Proactive Sales Manager for the corporate segment. My education in HTMI has facilitated propelling my career to where it is now. In life, we should not be complacent and should continue to upgrade ourselves to remain competitive in the industry.
My name is Eugene Chan and I am a team manger from the education department of S.E.A. Aquarium at Resort World Sentosa. I joined the department in November 2014. My role in S.E.A. Aquarium is to provide manage the team at the aquarium to make sure that the operation run smoothly. I will look after all aspect of the aquarium such as logistics, man power, tour and many more.
In the earlier half of this year me and my team were able to train more team members for presentations in the aquarium, and some of them have done very well in presenting, with the encouragement our team have improved tremendously with the engagement of our guests. One of the many guests’ engagement that the S.E.A. Aquarium have would be our Marine Chatters presentations at the Open Ocean Gallery. Marine Chatters is a presentations where we would ask many different questions about our marine animals to our delighted guests such as “what is the largest marine animals we have in our exhibit?”. If a participant answered correct they would earn a prize, for example, a mini Manta plushie.
In the month of October, the S.E.A.Aquarium have a very spooky event “Spooky Seas”!! The different characters our team members played are Vampires, Mad Scientists, Scarecrows, Grim Reaper, Wizard and Pirates. We had a lot of fun creating fun moments with our younger guests who visited us and also handing out sweets to them when they completed their activities.
To end it all off, 2015 have been a fruitful year for our team as we have many more new team members joining us and taking on more responsibilities and I hope we are able to achieve even more in 2016! One of our many goals is that we will create an even better experience at SEAA that hopefully in turn will create a memory that will stay in our visitors for years to come.
In conclusion it’s my belief that how good the experience of the guests lies in the people working here in SEAA and I am truly happy to be a part of this team.
